Ball Bearing is built so that your information stays on your iPhone. This page explains, in plain English, exactly what the app and this website do with it.

The short version

  • No account, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking.
  • The app doesn’t send us any personal data. We don’t receive any.
  • Your location and camera are used on your phone, only while you’re searching.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details.

What the app uses, and why

Location

Ball Bearing uses your location while the app is open to mark where you hit from, to work out true north, and to show you on the map as you walk to the ball. It is used on your iPhone and never sent to us. The app doesn’t use your location in the background.

Camera

The camera shows the view ahead on the Aim screen so you can line up the shot. When you lock the bearing, the app keeps that one frame as a reference photo, so you can match the landmark when you get there. The photo stays inside the app, is never added to your photo library, and is deleted after 30 days. The camera is off on every other screen.

Compass and motion

The app reads the compass and motion sensors to work out which way the phone is pointing. The readings are used as they arrive and aren’t stored. Only the bearing you lock is saved, with the search.

Your searches and clubs

Each search (where you hit from, the bearing, the distance, and whether you found the ball) and your club distances are saved on your iPhone, so the app can learn how far you hit each club. They aren’t uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app deletes them.

iCloud

So that reinstalling the app doesn’t reset the free searches, the app keeps a few numbers in your iCloud key-value storage: how many starter searches you’ve used, and how many you’ve used today. Apple keeps them in sync between devices signed in to the same Apple Account. They hold nothing else, and we can’t see them.

Maps

The satellite imagery comes from Apple Maps. To draw it, your iPhone asks Apple for the map tiles around you, as any app with an Apple map does. Apple handles those requests under its own privacy policy.

Purchases

Ball Bearing Unlimited is bought through the App Store. Apple takes the payment and tells the app only whether you own Unlimited. We never see your name, email address or payment details.

Sharing a zone

If you share a search zone, the app opens the normal iOS share sheet with a short message and an Apple Maps link to the zone. It goes only to the people and apps you choose.

What the app doesn’t do

  • No account or sign-in.
  • No advertising.
  • No analytics, tracking or third-party code that reports back.
  • No selling or sharing of data, because we don’t have any.

If you’ve chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may pass on anonymous crash reports. You control that in Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Analytics & Improvements.

This website

ballbearing.app sets no cookies, runs no analytics or adverts, and loads nothing from other companies: no outside fonts, scripts or trackers. Like any web server, ours keeps standard access logs (your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser’s description) to keep the site secure and working. They are deleted automatically after 14 days.

Children

Ball Bearing isn’t aimed at children, and it doesn’t collect personal data from anyone of any age.

Your rights

Because your data stays on your device, you’re in control of it. Delete the app and it’s gone. If you have a question about this policy or your data, email support@ballbearing.app. Under UK data protection law you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. If a change ever means the app would collect something new, the app will tell you before it happens.

Who we are
